ジョン・スーフー
ロサンゼルス生まれ。生まれも育ちもロサンゼルス。幼少期から大学卒業までをドジャースタジアムから5キロ圏内で過ごした。スポーツ写真を撮り始めたのは大学在籍時に大学新聞「デイリー・トロジャン」編集部に所属したことがきっかけ。アメリカンフットボールやバスケットボールなど大学スポーツの撮影からキャリアをスタートさせ、NBA殿堂入りを果たした名カメラマンのアンドリュー・バーンスタイン氏から撮影のイロハを学んだ。

Born and raised in Los Angeles. From childhood through college graduation, Jon lived within 5 kilometers of Dodger Stadium. Jon began taking sports photos while enrolled in college, when he joined the editorial staff of the universitynewspaper, the Daily Trojan. Jon started his career photographing college sports and he learned the basics of photography from Andrew Bernstein, a renowned photographer who was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame.

The Path to Becoming a Pro
プロへの道のり
ドジャースのチームフォトグラファーとして契約を結んでいたバーンスタイン氏が、助手としてジョンを撮影現場に連れて行ったことがきっかけとなり、1985年からドジャースの写真を撮るようになったジョンは、以来41年間、ドジャースの写真を撮り続けている。さらにジョンはNBA、NFL、カレッジフットボールなど他の主要スポーツの撮影も40年以上続けているフォトグラファーだ。
Mr. Bernstein, who had signed a contract as the Dodgers' team photographer, took Jon to the photo shoot as his assistant. This led to Jon starting to take photos for the Dodgers in 1985, and he has continued to do so for 41 years since then. Also Jon has been photographing major sporting events for over 40 years with work for the NBA as well as other agencies covering the NFL and collage football.

ドジャースを撮り続け41年
ジョンは自身のキャリアをこう表現する。「ドジャースを撮影することは特別なことではなく、”人生の何気ない一コマ”。選手の日常を切り取り、写真で残し続けること。それがチームカメラマンの仕事なんだ」。
Jon describes his career this way: “Photographing the Dodgers isn't something special—it's just a ‘casual snapshot of life.’ Capturing the players' everyday moments and preserving them through photography. That's the job of a team photographer.”
